Aims and scope
JAHDEP exists to give applied, policy-relevant research on human development and economic wellbeing a rigorous, accessible, and genuinely open home — with particular encouragement of scholarship from Bangladesh and the wider Global South.
Why this journal
Human development sits at the intersection of economics, health, education, and social policy — yet research connecting these fields, particularly from and about the Global South, often struggles to find a natural academic home. JAHDEP is designed to fill that gap: a dedicated, focused venue for applied research that treats human wellbeing as an economic and policy question, not only a social one.
The journal is built around a coherent, well-defined subject area rather than a broad general-interest remit. This focus is deliberate: it allows JAHDEP to build a steady, engaged academic community, maintain a consistent editorial identity, and develop the subject-matter depth needed for long-term credibility and recognition.
Aims
JAHDEP aims to:
- Publish rigorously peer-reviewed, original research connecting human development outcomes with economic and public policy;
- Provide a credible, citable publishing venue for researchers working on Bangladesh, South Asia, and other Global South contexts;
- Support evidence-based policymaking by prioritising applied, policy-relevant contributions alongside theoretical work;
- Operate as a diamond open access journal, removing cost as a barrier to both publishing and reading; and
- Uphold internationally recognised standards of research and publication ethics from the journal's first issue onward.
Scope
JAHDEP welcomes submissions across, and at the intersections of, the following areas:
Submissions may be empirical, theoretical, or policy-focused, and may draw on quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches, provided they demonstrate methodological rigour and a clear contribution to applied human development scholarship.
Open access commitment
JAHDEP is published under a diamond open access model: articles are free to read immediately on publication, and authors are not charged any submission or publication fees. Authors retain copyright in their work, which is made available under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY) unless stated otherwise.
