Author guidelines
These guidelines outline how to submit to JAHDEP, what happens after submission, and what we expect from authors. Several operational details are still being finalised ahead of launch and are marked accordingly.
How to submit
What we accept
JAHDEP considers the following manuscript types, all within its stated scope:
Original research articles
Empirical, theoretical, or mixed-methods studies making a clear, original contribution to applied human development or economic policy.
Policy analysis & notes
Shorter, evidence-based pieces analysing a specific policy question or intervention.
Review articles
Systematic or critical reviews that synthesise and evaluate existing evidence on a defined topic within scope.
Book & report reviews
Critical reviews of recent books, reports, or datasets relevant to JAHDEP's readership.
Peer review
JAHDEP uses double-blind peer review: neither authors nor reviewers are told each other's identities. This is deliberate — it reduces the risk of bias based on an author's institution, country, gender, career stage, or publication history, and keeps the focus of review on the quality of the work itself.
Initial editorial screening
Submissions are checked for fit with JAHDEP's scope, originality, and basic manuscript requirements before being sent for review.
Double-blind peer review
Manuscripts passing screening are reviewed by independent reviewers with relevant expertise, drawn from a geographically diverse reviewer pool.
Editorial reconciliation
The handling editor reconciles reviewer feedback into a clear set of required revisions, which authors address before a final decision is made.
Copy-editing & publication
Accepted articles are copy-edited, typeset, and published. Submission and acceptance dates are recorded and published alongside each article.

Frequency & timelines
JAHDEP intends to publish on a rolling basis — articles are released individually as soon as they complete peer review, editorial reconciliation, and production — before being collated into a numbered issue. The target number of issues per year, and the target minimum articles per issue, will be confirmed and published here ahead of the journal's first call for papers. Consistent adherence to whatever schedule is announced will be maintained to support the journal's long-term credibility.
Copyright & licensing
Authors retain copyright in their published work. Articles are made available under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY), allowing free reuse provided the original work is properly credited. See the Indexing & Access page for full details.
